Page from My Journal: Chronicling A Day in the Life of A Reader

My name is Catherine and I'm a 29 year old work at home wife. My husband and I do not currently have children. When I am not teaching online, I am blogging, reading, or caring for our home! Both my husband and I love to be at home. We are the ultimate homebodies! This is a day from a fairly typical Monday in my life in April.
5:20 AM- The sounds of the local news gently prod me from sleep. I lay and listen to the goings on in the world, alternately hopeful and worried as the stories fill my ears. Sometimes, my husband will comment, or tell me to turn it up as the radio is on my side of the bed.

5:30 AM- My husbands BEEP BEEP BEEP alarm goes off- time for him to get up! I lay in bed and read while he showers/shaves. When he goes to attend to our guinea pigs (he is in charge of feeding and cleaning the cage) I get up to make him breakfast.

5:50 AM- Eat breakfast with my husband. Today is is Coffee, homemade Egg McMuffins and blackberries. Talk with my husband, ask if he has any last minute things that he needs me to do during the day while he is at work.I also feed our beloved dog- Sarah The Wonder Dog! We got her from the Kansas Humane Society and just love her.
6:20 AM- The husband is gone for the day and I hop in the shower and get ready for work! I am blessed to work from home as an online teacher for a local college, so my commute is short.

6:45 AM- Throw a load of laundry in. I follow the Flylady saying- "A load a day keeps the chaos away!" Since it is just my husband and I, generally it is a load every few days rather than every day, but I check every day to see how full the hamper is.
7:00 AM- Sit in front of my computer to start some grading. April and May are very busy months for me as a teacher. All of the final projects are coming in, students are very eager to get their grades FAST so they know their report card grade! It is a lot of work, but I love it.

10:00 AM- My morning's school work is done, so I go about doing housework, grocery shopping, and other "musts" that need to get done during the day! Today I went to the library as well. If it were not for the library, I would go broke! When I get home, I check my personal e-mail and read blogs. I have not been good at blogging myself lately, but it's a busy time of year so I don't worry about it.

12:00 PM- Lunch time! Today it is leftover pot roast, broccoli, and a roll. I have the terrible habit of reading while eating when I am alone, but I love to read and this is one of the times during the day that I can do it! After I eat, I clean the kitchen from this morning and from my lunch. If the dishwasher is full, I run it. I also pull anything out of the freezer that I may need for dinner. Today I pull out some make ahead butterhorn rolls to bake fresh for dinner. At least once a week, I have lunch with a friend, but she was unavailable this month for our lunch. I sure miss her!

1:00 PM- Back to school work! In the afternoon, I focus on answering questions via e-mail and preparing the future lessons for the week. At this time of year, I also work on changes for next term's classes. Each semester I tweak my course.

2:30 PM- Exercise! I take the dog for a walk or do a Walking Away the Pounds video if the weather is bad. It has been very nice lately, so my dog has been enjoying many walks outside!

3:30 PM- I make coffee in preparation for my husband's arrival home from work. He loves a cup after work! When he arrives, we drink a cup and talk about our days. Today we headed out to the garden to plant some new veggies (zucchini and tomatoes) for our summer garden. We can't wait until we have fresh vegetables on our table from our very own garden!

4:30 PM- Time for Jeopardy! My husband loves Trivia and is quite good at it! Today I watch it with him, but if I still had school work to catch up on, I'll do it now.

5:00 PM- Start dinner- today it's marinated chicken with mushrooms, baked potatoes, and salad. We eat and talk about our days, about what needs to be done the next day, and about our upcoming travels. Feed the dog. While dinner cooks, my husband and I do Jillian Micheal's 30 Day Shred together. We're trying to get a bit more in shape! Sitting down for a job most of your day takes its toll on your body, we're sad to discover!

6:30 PM- I'm also taking classes! I sit down now and work on my class work while my husband studies for his class. My class is online, so I use this time to study, do any discussion boards that are required, etc.

7:00 PM- House time! We like to watch House each week together. It's a guilty pleasure!

8:00 PM- Make sure the kitchen is clean, put away any stuff left out, and wind down from the day. I love the Flylady routines and use this time to do my evening routine. I agree with Flylady- the evening routine is much more important than the morning routine!

9:00 PM- Into bed! We are early to bed, early to rise people! We usually read together for half an hour or so and talk about what we're reading.

9:45 PM- Lights out! Tomorrow is another day!
