A Saturday in My Life...

Rise at 7am - Monday-Friday I usually get up at 5am, but since today is Saturday, I get to sleep in for 2 hours! I really enjoy that.

7:00-7:30am - Each morning I have a cup of tea and spend some time with the Lord. This usually involves prayer, reading the bible and sometimes just sitting quietly and enjoying His presence. If it’s warm outside I like to do this outdoors. Here in Michigan it’s still pretty chilly in the early morning so I settled for indoors today.

7:30-8:00am - After getting dressed and ready for the day, I eat a bit of yogurt and granola for breakfast.

7:30-9:30am - Saturday is usually chore and “get everything ready for next week” day around our house. This morning George and I talk about our plans for the day. While we watch the news ,I plan next week’s menu, make out the grocery list and write down things I would like to accomplish next week.

9:30-11:30am - Cleaning time. The first chore I do each Saturday is to strip the bed linens and wash those and then another load or two depending on what all is dirty. After the washer starts humming, I shake out all the throw rugs in the kitchen, laundry room and bathroom and sweep and wash the floors. Then I hang the first load of laundry on the line. I just love the smell of line dried clothes! After that I clean the bathroom.

11:30-1:30pm - It’s time to head into town to stop at the bank and get groceries. Today is a great shopping day, the store wasn’t busy like it usually is on a Saturday and there were lots of good deals to be had. After a couple of hours of this, I’m ready for the trip home and some lunch. We live out in the country, and it’s a beautiful drive to just about anywhere we go. I love looking at the scenery. I passed up several very interesting yard sales on the way home. With cold items in the car I don’t want to take any longer than necessary to get home.

1:30-2:30pm - We usually eat lunch later on Saturday and lunch is the biggest meal of our day. It all depends on if my hubby is at a good stopping place in what ever he is working on. I try to wait until he’s ready to eat, even if it’s a lot later than I’m used to. I grew up in a large family, and some of my favorite times were meal times when we were all gathered around the table chattering away. For the many years that I was single, fellowship over a meal was one of the things I missed the most, so it’s really important to me to eat with my husband whenever possible. While waiting for George I pull a couple buckets of weeds from our front flower beds and enjoy a glass of lemonade. Why is it that weeds grow twice as fast as the flowers?! We don’t have a lot of flowers in bloom yet, but our Jack in the Pulpit and Irises are up.

2:30-3:00pm - I fix Quick & Tasty Mexican Casserole for lunch.

3:00-3:30pm - We eat lunch.

3:30-3:45pm - We're finished with lunch and I spend time cleaning up from lunch.

3:45-4:45pm - Time for a nap! My husband and I are both nappers. Generally we always take a nap on the weekends. It’s so refreshing, plus it helps me with my morning person nature be able to stay up a bit later with my husband without totally zonking out at 9pm.

4:45 -5:00pm - Sitting outside in the lawn chairs, I enjoy a cup of tea.

5:00-8:00pm - After finishing the rest of the laundry, I iron it all. Then I call and visit with my mom and sister for about a half hour, clean the kitchen sink and empty the trashes; Monday is trash day. Next, I vacuum the living room and bedroom and “neaten” the place up

8:00-9:00pm - George was so kind to hand two new curtain rods for me in the bedroom. So out comes the ironing board again, I press 2 sets of navy blue curtains. I’m so excited to finally have a nice set of bedroom curtains after nearly 4 years in this house! I’m not what you would call decorating savvy, so we just have mostly plain jane things with no flair what-so-ever; these curtains are a real treat.

9:00-10:30pm - I wind down from the day by having a quick bite to eat, watching a little TV with George and reading a little bit. Some of my favorite magazines are the Country, Reminisce and Farm and Ranch Living from Riemann Publications. These magazines are so uplifting!

10:30-11:30pm - After praying and reading a chapter of the Bible, the lights are out.

Is this something you would like to be a part of? I'd love to hear from you. We are in need of people who are willing to chronicle a day in their life to post on this blog. If you are interested, please email me: modestpatterns @ sbcglobal.net (remove spaces)
