Fun with Photos

I discovered a new photo editing program this week and am loving it. So today, I dug out some old photos and had fun messing around. Here's some edited pictures that bring back special memories of my time living in the Minnesota twin cities as a nanny.

Ahhh...the daily traffic there. I'm pretty sure I don't miss that, but it was a fun challenge learning to drive a 12 passenger van in this crazy traffic. This was a normal picture of traffic no matter what time of day you were driving.

Just in case you're wondering, I don't usually take pictures while I'm driving. At least...not too often. :) Actually, these were taken with my old camera which wasn't near as big as the nicer camera I now own. It was much easier to take a photo back then than it is now. :)

Two of the little girls in the family I nannied. I loved the fact that Minnesota had some sort of lake literally every place you went. We spent a lot of time swimming that summer. :)

Just because I'm curious, for you photographers out there, I'd love to know what photo editing program you use and why. Or do you even use an editing program? Am I just nuts in thinking that photographers edit most all their photos?

  1. My amazing son-in-law insists on taking such perfect pictures that he doesn't need editing software. I'm not sure how he does it, but I can tell you that he's a bit of a pain when he photographs people. As for me, I use Picasa to edit my photos. It's free, and allows the use of watermarks so I can easily label all my pics with my copyright. It's probably not the best software out there, but it works for me. (Editing software was the subject of a dinner conversation recently.) If you have a Mac, iPhoto is the way to go, or so I am told.

  2. I absolutely love Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. If I had to choose one program, I'd choose it. Pricey, but it's fabulous. =) However, I have that as well as Photoshop CS4 which is amazing too. =)

It depends on how serious you are or what you want to do. I can't stand Picasa anymore, cause it isn't nearly as powerful and I can't do what I want to do. I use Photoshop for photo retouching, design work, putting text on photos, laying out collages, etc.. or if I want to do really special stuff to a particular photo{s}. Lightroom is much quicker for 'normal' stuff, and yes, I normally do something to all my pictures...but it does depend.

  3. I use Adobe Lightroom and love it. I know Photoshop is a bit more advanced, but I like Lightroom better because it doesn't have a lot of the graphic design stuff attached to it. I'd definitely recommend it! Prior to using it, I used both Picasa (on my Dell) and iPhoto (on my mac). Although I loved both programs, I Lightroom is definitely much better =)

  5. I love Picassa because it's so easy to use and I love having all of my pictures right there at my fingertips. (Saves me TONS of time flipping through folders hunting the particular picture I'm wanting.) For more "detailed" editing I use Photoshop though. I think it's safe to say that I don't edit "most" of my pictures--if they are pictures from a photoshoot usually I'll edit a little more (at least lighting/etc), but pictures for my blog and stuff like that aren't usually edited.
